x-treme-xb-305sla-electric-mountain-bikeThe X-Treme XB-305-SLA Electric Mountain Bike is highlighted in this weeks featured review. As someone who is fairly appreciative of the great outdoors, I like to mountain bike. I consider it an active and fun sport that can really get your heart rate up and build muscles and stamina, and keep you as healthy as a horse. I wanted to get my wife to go with me, but she never liked the feeling of any of the women's mountain bikes I showed her till I finally found a model that she fell in love with almost instantly: X-Treme's new XB-305-SLA Electric Mountain Bicycle.

Two 12 volt, 12 amp sealed lead acid batteries feed the XB-305-SLA's 300 watt brushless hub mounted motor, which is located in the center of the rear wheel. This means no chains or belts to worry about, as power is applied directly to the wheel itself. The 7-speed Shimano Tourney gears and shifter work together with a TX-31 rear derailleur and gearbox, allowing the rider to pedal, to activate the Twist and Go (TAG) system which activates the motor when the throttle is turned, or the Power Assist (PA) mode, which can make pedaling easier as the engine comes on to provide a boost at every rotation of the pedals.

The XB-305-SLA can carry a rider at speeds up to 20 mph, with a range of 10 miles on a single charge, though pedaling will greatly increase the miles per our rate and maximum range. The battery pack is designed as a quick change one, so that swap outs are fast. x-treme-xb-305sla-electric-mountain-bikeThe X-Treme XB-305-SLA Electric Mountain Bike is highlighted in this weeks featured review. My wife loved the front and rear caliper brakes will bring riders to a halt when needed, applying pressure to the double wall alloy rims that have high quality 26” x 1.95” Kenda pneumatic tires mounted on them. When you need to remove the wheels, it's a snap with the quick release front hub and the quick release sealed rear wheel hub motor.

Pros:
  • Beefy 300 watt brushless electric engine can push a rider forward at 20 mph unassisted
  • Lead acid battery pack lets you ride 10 miles on a single charge, and can recharge in about four hours
  • Really comfy padded seat can let you ride for hours without needing to rest
  • Quality Kenda tires on double wall alloy rims are strong enough to handle repeated landings after jumps and other tricks
Cons:
  • Should come in more color choices
